At PS we love events - especially those for
charity, and 2013 was no different. We held three charity events last year and
participated in a further one, raising money for four different cancer
charities.
We kicked off the fundraising in June with
our Little Princess Cocktail Party, which we held at the salon, to raise money
for the Little Princess Trust. Our beautiful sister Ellie decided to cut off
her long wavy hair and donate it to the charity, which collects donations of
hair and cash to make natural wigs for little girls who have lost their hair,
usually to chemotherapy treatment. Our equally gorgeous sister Liz decided she
would join Ellie, so we set a date! Our friends and family were invited, along
with their daughters (who dressed in princess frocks) to enjoy homemade cakes,
cocktails and ‘mocktails’ and a pink raffle.
While the main event was to cut off the
locks of our sister’s hair, we also love any excuse to have a little party.
Much of the success was down to our friend Amy who runs the pub down the road
and who helped with the contents of the cocktails, as well as our friends and
family who made such delicious cakes for us to share. We raised almost £200 as
well as four plaits of hair. If you haven’t already heard of the charity and

Next came the London Bridgathon which we
walk every September in memory of our brother Peter, to raise money for the
Leukemia and Lymphoma Unit at UCLH (University College London Hospital).
Originally it was Peter’s plan to do the walk with us but events overtook that
ambition and we are proud to do it every year and remember him while we take in
the sights of the city from the beautiful banks of the River Thames. Luckily
the weather on the 2013 walk was kind to us, given the fact that we usually
have various pushchairs and four generations of our family walking together. To
donate to this cause and help those who are receiving care in the unit, you can

Our third main contribution to charity came
in November with our annual Autumn Fair, which we hold in the church hall at
Our Lady Queen of Heaven, Frimley, to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma
Research Charity. With the help and support from our wonderful family, and our
local Leukemia and Lymphoma Research representatives, Robert and Tessa Cox, we
are able to create such a sociable and successful event. We have stalls selling
homemade cakes, biscuits, marmalade and jam, as well as a second hand book
sale, and plenty of traditional games, which are good fun for the whole family.
Our fair has been embraced by the lovely people of our parish, who donate many
of the goods we sell, to raise money to ‘Beat Blood Cancer!’ To find our more
about the charity visit www.leukaemialymphomaresearch.org.uk
Our fourth charity event to mention was
Movember, which we dedicated an entire post to in back in December. As we talked about previously, Movember was
designed to create awareness of prostate and testicular cancer and raise vital
funds to help fight this. Movember proved hugely successful for us, as we raised
well over £1000.
As always, we are excited to see what will
happen in 2014 and the new ideas we come up with to help raise further money
for such incredible charities. This year we are starting with the Fleet half
marathon, which PS’ Paula is running for the first time, along with a few
friends and family members.
Be sure to keep checking this blog, along
with our various social media pages, for updates and more information on
upcoming events and fundraising.
So, Paula has now completed the 1/2 Marathon in record time- 1hr 54 minutes!! Well done Pea :) we are all very proud of you, and Aunty Anne who stormed across the finish line a few minutes later.
