As I’m sure most people are aware, November is a huge month for men’s health, all thanks to a charity event known as ‘Movember’. During the month of November, The Movember Foundation raises awareness of men’s health issues with the help of thousands of males (Mo Bro’s) who “donate their faces” by growing their moustaches for the entire 30 days of the month. As well as raising awareness for prostate and testicular cancer, and mental health, the participants raise vital funds that are helping to combat these health challenges.
We at PS have been supporting Movember more than ever this year, encouraging all the men we know to grow a ‘tache for the cause, as well as hosting a men’s pampering night at the salon for those taking part. Philippa got involved in particular this year, along with her husband and a bunch of his friends. Read Philippa’s personal account of the month, along with PS’ contributions to Movember below…
This has been a very interesting November... My husband and I discussed what it would be like if he decided to grow a moustache for Movember? He thought he would go for it and managed to rope in a dozen friends to join him. We set up our own team page on the Movember website and received great support from the guys at Mo headquarters, who really make you feel part of something wonderful.
It didn't take long for my husband’s ‘tache to resemble something rather spectacular as he is pretty hairy anyway; and Paula was on hand to offer some perfect barbering tips and practical help to keep him tidy!
On Monday 26th November there was a men's pampering night at the salon. Men don't get much of a chance to be spoilt so it was lovely to see them really enjoying themselves. We offered scalp massages, hot towel steams and men's facials, which were finished off with the smoothest cut throat shave. Paula really is a genius with a razor – I cannot wait to learn from her and to be able to do what she does. To see all the men walk out of the salon looking so relaxed was very worthwhile.
So Saturday 30th was the end of the Mo, and we finished off the journey with a casino style party. We had Black Jack and Roulette - the croupiers were fabulous! And the chaps could show off their Mo's in style and celebrate their hard work. This was also a brilliant way to raise more money for the charity and to boost the brilliant efforts already shown by such full sponsorship forms.
Although we enjoyed the experience overall, the first thing my man did on Sunday morning was to reach for the razor! He looked great with a Mo… but I’m glad to have my husband back!
Philippa and Co expect to raise well over £1000 for their contribution to Movember this year, becoming a Platinum Movember team!
