Christmas at Frimley High Street

To get into the festive spirit we thought it would be a nice idea to feature the window displays from a few of the stores on Frimley High Street (including our own) this Christmas.

The courier service Essential Address has joined in the festive fun by putting up a Christmas tree in their shop window. According to the guys at Essential Address, the tree was looking very sorry for itself at first, with only lights adorning it. But thanks to some business with the local charity shops on Frimley high street (Age UK & Oxfam) it’s now fully decorated! For more information about Essential Address visit www.essentialaddress.com/

One of our favourite shops on the high street, who always has such lovely displays, is The Pottery Gift House. Run by Sarah Jane Croke, The Pottery Gift House is a beautiful Aladdin’s cave of treasures where you will find an array of vintage products and handmade arts & crafts, paintings, greetings cards and even furniture. Sarah is a milliner and also creates fascinators and bespoke handmade jewellery. In the New Year, Sarah will be branching out her clothes range too. See Sarah’s display below which features fascinator’s, Christmas lights and shabby-chic decorations. And finally, a very Merry Christmas for everyone at PS!

A Month with a New Man

As I’m sure most people are aware, November is a huge month for men’s health, all thanks to a charity event known as ‘Movember’. During the month of November, The Movember Foundation raises awareness of men’s health issues with the help of thousands of males (Mo Bro’s) who “donate their faces” by growing their moustaches for the entire 30 days of the month. As well as raising awareness for prostate and testicular cancer, and mental health, the participants raise vital funds that are helping to combat these health challenges.
We at PS have been supporting Movember more than ever this year, encouraging all the men we know to grow a ‘tache for the cause, as well as hosting a men’s pampering night at the salon for those taking part. Philippa got involved in particular this year, along with her husband and a bunch of his friends. Read Philippa’s personal account of the month, along with PS’ contributions to Movember below…
This has been a very interesting November... My husband and I discussed what it would be like if he decided to grow a moustache for Movember? He thought he would go for it and managed to rope in a dozen friends to join him. We set up our own team page on the Movember website and received great support from the guys at Mo headquarters, who really make you feel part of something wonderful.

It didn't take long for my husband’s ‘tache to resemble something rather spectacular as he is pretty hairy anyway; and Paula was on hand to offer some perfect barbering tips and practical help to keep him tidy!
On Monday 26th November there was a men's pampering night at the salon. Men don't get much of a chance to be spoilt so it was lovely to see them really enjoying themselves. We offered scalp massages, hot towel steams and men's facials, which were finished off with the smoothest cut throat shave. Paula really is a genius with a razor – I cannot wait to learn from her and to be able to do what she does. To see all the men walk out of the salon looking so relaxed was very worthwhile.
So Saturday 30th was the end of the Mo, and we finished off the journey with a casino style party. We had Black Jack and Roulette - the croupiers were fabulous! And the chaps could show off their Mo's in style and celebrate their hard work. This was also a brilliant way to raise more money for the charity and to boost the brilliant efforts already shown by such full sponsorship forms.
Although we enjoyed the experience overall, the first thing my man did on Sunday morning was to reach for the razor! He looked great with a Mo… but I’m glad to have my husband back!
Philippa and Co expect to raise well over £1000 for their contribution to Movember this year, becoming a Platinum Movember team!

Arbonne Christmas Shopping Night + Product Launch

At PS we are always thinking of ways we can branch out further when it comes to “being green”. Already we are working on minimising our impact on the earth with biodegradable towels and eco-friendly LED lights, while last month we took this one step further with the introduction of Arbonne products in our salon.

Arbonne is a premium brand with a Swiss heritage that prides itself on promising “pure, safe and beneficial products”. The brand uses pure ingredients and matches this with eco-friendly packaging, to ensure what is good on the inside is also good on the outside. Inspired by nature and enhanced by science, Arbonne creates botanically based products, which naturally enhances your beauty and wellbeing.

A couple of weeks ago PS held a Christmas shopping night with an Arbonne representative to launch the products and introduce them to our clients. All types of Arbonne products were on offer on the night, including hair care, cosmetics and skincare.

There are a few different types of hair care ranges, all of which PS Hairdressing now stock. These include their ‘Pure Vibrance Range’ which works on hydrating the hair to prevent breakage, while incorporating anti-fading properties to lock in colour. This range is specifically designed for chemically and colour-treated hair. The other main range is ‘FC5” which uses daily formulas to nourish the hair and cleanse and condition it for hydrated and radiant locks.

For more information about these hair care ranges and further products from Arbonne, speak to Philippa or Paula, our salon’s independent consultants working with the brand.

Welcome to the Blog

PS Hairdressing is a friendly boutique salon situated in the heart of Frimley, Surrey. We are a dynamic team and are each equally passionate about hairdressing and excited by what it can offer. We opened our doors in the autumn of 2008 and have been delivering the highest service of classic and contemporary hairdressing to our clients ever since.

We decided to set up a blog as a way of exploring the finer factors of what makes great hair. We plan to discuss all aspects of health and wellbeing from organic products we swear by, to healthy eating and lifestyle; as after all, a healthy diet can be fundamental to nutritious hair.

As well as healthy and wellbeing , you will find lots of information on events happening at the salon (look out for our upcoming ‘Movember’ post) as well as all the latest fashion and hair trends.
